Patricia has called the US Virgin Island of St. John her home for the last three years, living out her dream of becoming an artist in the Caribbean.

She studied the history and fundamentals of art at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and has exhibited with the City of Raleigh, Junior League of Raleigh, Visual Art Exchange, and the Carter Building.

Her work is composed of small sketches on paper and large works on canvas. Acrylics, ink, watercolors, graphite, charcoal, and gold leaf are used to complete her paintings.

Patricia begins her works by visually recording the shapes in front of her; both from life and from images captured on camera.

There comes a point during creation when the marks move beyond the visible. As brushstrokes are made, faces arise from certain impressions. Eyes appear as lights in darkness, particles in space, and windows on walls. Specific features are exaggerated and the painting’s narrative is told through the title. It’s words serve as metaphors for occurring events.

If you look closely enough you will see the stories hiding just beneath the surface.
