North Carolina State Motto: Esse Quam Videri
Don’t just say it, do it
This piano is part of Raleigh’s Complex Piano Project. It is located outside the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts. The artwork is centered around North Carolina’s state motto, “Esse Quam Videri”.
The establishments painted on the piano embody the importance their facades present. The images were all originally composed at previous times during Patricia’s stay in the city. The locations are within walking distance to Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

The North Carolina State Capitol
This reproduction of Patricia’s painting, A Night To Remember, was created after her visit to The North Carolina Symphony. It sold in The Raleigh Fine Arts Society’s North Carolina Artist’s Exhibition and was hung outside of Meymandi Hall.
The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts
This was originally designed during The Visual Art Exchange’s annual street painting festival. Patricia drew this en plein air while completing her square on Fayetteville St.

Shaw University - Leonard Hall
Both of these images were used in Patricia’s donated artwork, Black Education Matters, for The Flying Biscuit’s Black Lives Matter fundraising project. They are two of the three Historical Black Colleges in North Carolina. Shaw University is located just to the left of the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts, while St. Augustine’s is down the road from there. The proceeds were donated to The Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
Christ Church
First Baptist Church
Patricia spent several days painting these churches from the steps of the North Carolina State Capitol building. They are two of the oldest churches in Raleigh. First Baptist Church was organized in 1812, with Christ Episcopal Church forming in 1821. She donated her painting Christ Church to the establishment's annual art fundraiser, where it was sold.
